By Charlie De Biase Jr. |

The PSAL has changed its playoff format for the 2019 season and two Staten Island teams are eligible to capture the AA city championship.

No. 1 Tottenville and No. 3 Susan Wagner will take part in the eight-team AA Gold playoff bracket. The four winners advance to the double-elimination AA Gold Final Four bracket, which will ultimately decide the 2019 city champion.

The Pirates and Falcons begin playoff action Wednesday at home.

Tottenville, which is looking to win its first city crown since 2016, will host No. 8 Francis Lewis while Wagner will entertain No. 6 James Madison. Both games begin at 4 p.m.

The other two AA Gold play-in match-ups include No. 7 Stuyvesant at No. 2 HS of Construction and No. 5 Stevenson at No. 4 Millennium. Those games are also Wednesday.

The remaining four Staten Island AA schools, meanwhile, will compete in the AA Silver Pegasus Cup (AASPC) tourney. The four losing teams from the AA Gold play-in will also drop into the Silver Pegasus Cup bracket.

No. 5 New Dorp, No. 7 Curtis, No. 25 McKee/Staten Island Tech and No. 27 Port Richmond will each compete in the AASPC.

The Central Cougars will meet No. 28 Riverdale/Kings at Tottenville HS beginning at 5:30; The Warriors will host No. 26 Cardozo; the Seagulls will take on No. 8 Manhattan Center at Thomas Jefferson Park #3 in Manhattan and the Raiders will square off against No. 6 Bronx Science at Harris Park #3 in the Bronx.

The last three games all begin at 4.
