HS baseball roundup: Susan Wagner gets break-through win; SIA gives new skipper first win

By Joe D'Amodio |

Susan Wagner baseball coach Donato Pesce’s Falcons haven’t gotten off to the start they wanted, but perhaps Wednesday’s 11-1 mercy-rule shortened home victory over Brooklyn Tech will be a turning point.

“This was our best performance of the season,” said Pesce. “We have been playing well but haven’t seen the wins.”

SW won for only the second time in six PSAL Southern division outings as hurler Kevin Walters set the tone early by striking out the first three batters of game en route to 10 Ks in five innings. He allowed one earned run.

Walters also rapped two hits and plated two.

John Vitucci paced the Falcons with three hits and three RBI. Dylan Whyte also had two hits and an RBI.

“This was a good win for us that will hopefully springboard us to put up some wins as we head into the spring break,” said Pesce.
