Shawn Jackson completed his trifecta (winning the PSAL NYC, the NY State Federation, and now the Staten Island Interscholastics), with a machine-like demonstration, thumping of a talented Wesley Zhang 6-0, 6-1.
Despite the cool temperatures, Jackson was hot from the on-set, as his forehand crushed winner after winner.
Zhang’s only chance in the 33-point first set came at 3-0 when he extended Jackson to deuce for the only time in the set. The second set followed the same script as Jackson cruised to a 5-0 lead before Zhang broke to get on the board. Jackson proceeded to smack three winners in the next game for the championship.
Jackson tied a record with three others by winning his third Interscholastic title in the 68 year history. Jackson will take his talents to Hofstra University in the fall.
In girls' doubles, NDA’s Julia Corrado and Jianna Walters captured the title over Tottenville’s Elizabeth Slootskiy and Miriam Farag 6-2, 6-2 becoming the first NDA duo to capture the title.
The boys' doubles final is Monday at 4 p.m.
