Susan Wagner senior Will Cuthbertson starred Sunday with two come-from-behind wins at the PSAL City Championships at Icahn Stadium.

Individually, in the 800-meter run, top-seeded Jeffrey Perdomo of Dewitt Clinton pushed the pace.

“I knew he was going to go out fast,” said Cuthbertson. “It was a little uncomfortable because I really don’t like to go out that quick but I knew that if I stuck with him through the first lap I might be able to outkick him late.”

That’s exactly what happened as Cuthbertson overtook Perdomo on the final straightaway, clocking in at 1:55.09 for the gold. Perdomo took second in 1:56.06 followed shortly by SW’s Mahmoud Abdalla, who took third in 1:59.05.

Later in the 4x800, Cuthbertson took out fast again to close a near 25-meter gap, overtaking Brooklyn Tech’s Astor Meredith-Goujon in the waning moments to secure the team’s win in 8:05.87. Abdalla, Daniel Wronski and Yazan Saifcomprised the other legs.

“We lost to them in the same way at the Mayor’s Cup,” recalled Cuthbertson. “There was just too big of a gap. I made it my mission today to close it out. It was just willpower.”

Susan Wagner also got a silver medal performance from Evan Daneluzzi in the 1,600 as he came in behind Midwood’s Ermyas Harper (4:26.34) with a time of 4:38.99.

Christopher Hernandez also tallied points for the Falcons in the 3,200, taking third in 9:54.51.

Susan Wagner is currently sitting second with 46 points behind Brooklyn Tech’s 47. Riverdale is third with 35. The meet concludes Tuesday afternoon where the triple jump, high jump and pole vault will be competed.
