With the boys doing their part, easily winning the SIPSAL championship, Susan Wagner assistant Scott Rizzo knew it wouldn’t come so easy on the girls’ side.
“On paper we knew we had the talent but to beat out MSIT who’s always tough and CSI/McCown who beat us at Islands, we knew we would have our work cut out for us.”
Whereas the boys scored golds in most of the events, the Falcon girls only had five; instead relying on solid finishes throughout the meet to earn the team crown with 136 points. MSIT was second with 90 points, followed by CSIM with 87.
Freshman Kathryn Altieri had a big win in the 3,000, running just off her PR clocking in at 11:50.53 for the win, besting teammate Lauren Hernandez (2nd, 12:05.14). Altieri was also one of three Falcon scorers in the 1,500-meter run, taking fourth in 5:17.11.
Nadirah Umrani Sanders won two golds, scoring wins in both the shot put (35-2 ½) and the weight throw (40-2 ¾). She currently ranks in the top three in the PSAL in both events.
MSIT’s Cassidy Williams outlasted New Dorp’s Madelyn Rodriguez (1:40.44) in the 600 in 1:39.56, lowering her own Island-best time this year.
New Dorp’s Jessica Prentice stood out both on the track and in the field, winning the 300-meter dash (42.60) and the long jump (15-3).
