Susan Wagner 46 Poly Prep 40
SW was led by junior Kanayah Britt's 16 points. Sophomore Casey Caroccia chipped in with 9 pts. off the bench. "This game was everything we imagined it would be. Nayah hit some key free throws when we needed them most. As stellar as Kanayah was, it was our team defense that made the difference. We knew we had to contain Shanniah Wright (Georgetown's Div. 1 signee). She's an unstoppable force in the paint who we knew would create a mismatch nightmare for our team. The combination of Clare, Denise, and Heather played a key role in containing her. I'm proud of how they banged with her and matched her physical tenacity. Our guards were also terrific closing out on Poly's shooters. Give credit to Poly Prep. They a very good team. Every time we created space with a double digit lead, they'd answer with a huge three. We just did all the little things today. It's those little things that dont show up in the box score that put us up on top in the end. It's another huge step in the right direction for our program." - Coach Tom Rizzo |

Five Falcons recorded double digit scoring led by Kanayah Britt's 16, Kayla Trembone's 14 (4 treys), Denise Priolo's 13, Heather Caroccia's 12, and Clare Regolizio's 12. "We will need consistent unselfish contributions from all our players on both sides of the ball to continue to be successful. We have some huge games left to play and the play-offs are not far off. We just want to keep improving one game at a time. " - Coach Tom Rizzo |

PSAL AA Showcase Susan Wagner vs. Summit Academy Girls Varsity Basketball
The AA Showcase was a rematch of last year's PSAL play-off between Susan Wagner and Summit Academy. It was a game that the Falcons lost by 2 in the final seconds at home. This time the outcome had Susan Wagner coming out on top for the victory. The game was tied 23-23 at the half with key starter Kadiyah Britt relegated to the bench when she picked up her third foul. The Falcons came out of the third with a six point lead and the momentum which carried into the 4th quarter. SW built a 16 point lead and was eventually able to pull away with the victory. The Falcons were led by Kanayah Britt's 21 points and Denise Priolo's 24 points. "We knew we had to execute our game plan and do the little things against a very tough and talented Summit Academy. They were able to pound the ball into their bigs early on. Their size wreaked havoc on us and our early foul trouble didn't help. Kanayah was a huge difference-maker for us scoring 12 of her 21 points in that first half. The bench was also tremendous picking up Kadiyah when she committed her third foul. We talked about doing a better job defensively against their bigs at half-time and our girls responded. When they tried containing Kanayah, she was able to find Denise who exploded in the second half hitting a key three after a key three. It was the little things however, that don't get mentioned or written in the scorebook that made the difference today. I was thrilled with how we boxed out as a team and hustled on the defensive end. We stress the importance of the fundamentals and our girls were rewarded for executing those fundamentals. We took another huge step forward today but still have our work cut out for us this up-coming week." |
Susan Wagner 57 MSIT 28
The Falcons were led by Juniors Heather Caroccia 15 points off the bench, Kadiyah Britt's 12 points 7 rebounds, and Kanayah Britt's 11 points Susan Wagner Plays Summit Academy next on 1/27/18 in the PSAL AA Showcase. |

Susan Wagner 46 James Madison 49
SW took a 10 game winning streak on the road against defending PSAL Champs James Madison. The Falcons trailed 20-11 after the first but entered halftime with a 25-24 lead. Madison responded out-scoring SW 15-6 in the third to enter the forth period with a 39-31 lead. SW slowly chipped away in the fourth quarter and tied the game on Kadiyah Britt's drive. Following a SW turnover, Madison's Sara James hit a long contested 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining to put the Golden Knights up for good 49-46. "We knew what we were up against playing the defending PSAL Champs on their home floor. It was a game of runs and we had our chances. Sara James did what she and her sisters do all the time... make incredible shots! They're as tough as they come and good as any team we'll play this season. These are the kind of games that reveal a team's character. I'm proud of our girls for playing tough and refusing to quit. We'll move forward, talk about what went wrong, and work on fixing where we fell short. We have another tough week ahead of us against formidable opponents. This is what makes Basketball so much fun. There will be more games we play on a big stage like today's. We're going to continue to work hard and hopefully the outcome will be in our favor the next time." SW was led by Juniors Denise Priolo's 16 points and Kadiyah Britt's 10 points -Tom Rizzo Head Coach Susan E. Wagner H.S. Girls Varsity Basketball |
Susan Wagner 69 Port Richmond 32
SW was led by juniors Denise Priolo's 24 points (career high) - 7 reboundss. and Kanayah Britt's 14 points, "Denise is having a phenomenal year. She has been our most consistent player and continues to get better with each game. This is her third year playing Varsity Basketball and we're thrilled watching her development." -Tom Rizzo Head Coach Susan E. Wagner H.S. Girls Varsity Basketball |
Susan Wagner 75 CSI 25
SW was led by juniors Denise Priolo's 13 points & Kanayah Britt's 11 points. The Falcons received huge contributions off the bench with Heather Caroccia's 11 points, Sophomore Victoria Brescia's 11points-7 rebounds, and Maria Demontreaux's 9 points 6 rebounds |

Susan Wagner 72 Benjamin Banneker 38
SW continues their hot start with another victory in a non-league contest at home against Banneker. Five Falcons recorded double digits in points led by "the twins" juniors Kadiyah Britt's 14 points, and Kanayah Britt's 12 points. Junior Denise Priolo added 13 points while Sophomore Briana Ivakovic's 12 points and Heather Caroccia's 10 points off the bench capped off another balanced attack. "I said from the start we've been blessed with such a phenomenal back court. The twins (Kadiyah and Kanayah Britt) are a phenomenal tandem to watch. They help set the tone for us wreaking havoc on defense and do so many of the little things you don't see in the box score. They made a reputation for themselves as Basketball players long ago on Staten Island and now teams throughout the other boroughs are well aware of who they are. You surround them with other talented players like Denise Priolo, Kayla Trembone, Heather Caroccia, and Clare Regolizio and suddenly you're blessed with a special team. We haven't hit the mid way point of our season but as a coach I'm truly excited and thrilled for them looking forward. There's so many different players on this squad that could light up the scoreboard on any given night and yet none of them care about personal statistics. They've bought into a "defense wins games" mentality and focus on taking a game by game approach. We have a long way to go and hopefully we continue down this path. Right now all we need to do is just keep playing hard." -Tom Rizzo Head Coach Girls Varsity Basketball Susan E. Wagner H.S. |
Susan Wagner 59 MSIT 27
SW continues to roll with another fast start. The Falcons limited MSIT to only 13 first half points and continued the trend in the second half giving up only 14 points. A balanced SW attack led by sophomore Briana Ivakovic's 15 points (3 treys), Kanayah Britt's 13 points (5 steals), Denise Priolo's 10 points, and Kadiyah Britt's 10 points off the bench set the tone early on and allowed the Falcons to cruise their way to victory. "I was very happy with our defense. We were able to get out in transition and score some layups. We got back to shooting the ball well and making good passes. I love the direction we're headed in and we keep making little strides with each game. It's a very long season in a very tough division. Our non-league schedule is brutal as well. This is a wonderful group of girls who just want to compete and play hard every night. If we're going to continue to be successful, we know we're going to have to bring our A-game with us. There's plenty of games left against so many good teams. We're taking it one practice at a time...One game at a time." -Tom Rizzo Head Coach Susan E. Wagner H.S. Girls Varsity Basketball |
Susan Wagner 58 New Dorp 17
SW got off to a fast start leading 20-4 and never looked back. The Falcons were led by Denise Priolo's 12 points, Kanayah Britt's 11points 5 steals and Heather Caroccia's 10 points off the bench. "We pressured the ball early and were fortunate to get a comfortable lead. Our outside shooting was off but that's to be expected from time to time. We continued to move the ball well. If our defense is consistently our best offense, we'll be o.k. on the nights our shots aren't falling." Tom Rizzo Head Coach Susan E. Wagner H.S. Girls Varsity Basketball |
